The Emily Shane Foundation was established after a suicidal driver on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu struck and killed 13 year old Emily Rose Shane. The Foundation appreciates the recent support of Civic Duty co-founders Julian Omidi and his brother, Dr. Michael Omidi.

“Emily was one of those amazing kids. In many ways, she was beyond her years. She was all about helping others,” says her mother Ellen Shane. “Emily was the one who welcomed a new student to the school; she tried to cheer you up if you were sad. She would ask you to join her at the lunch table if you were sitting alone.”

The mission of the non profit Emily Shane Foundation is comprised of three main initiatives: one is a good deeds website, which encourages people all over the world to perform any act of kindness – “Passing it Forward.” The Foundation’s goal is to motivate 100 million others to make a difference for another human being in Emily’s name.

The second is the SEA (Successful Educational Achievement) Program, an educational initiative which provides one on one mentoring to mainstreamed, struggling middle school students, focusing on but not limited to those with learning/processing issues. The SEA Program targets only those students who could not otherwise afford this much-needed support and risk “falling through the cracks.” The “cost” to the student participants is to perform a good deed for each and every mentoring session and post their good deed on the website.

The third is to promote awareness of safety issues on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and identify solutions to spare other families further sorrow and grief.

Dr. Michael Omidi says, “My brother and I are honored to ‘Pass it Forward’ with the Emily Shane Foundation. Making a difference is the heart of our work through Civic Duty.”

Emily was the youngest child of Ellen and Michel Shane. Since the vehicle that killed Emily was used as a deadly weapon, the driver was eventually convicted of murder in the second degree after two separate trials. The incident had a devastating impact on the entire Malibu community where Emily lived her utterly too short life. She is remembered for her laughter and compassion. Please join us along with Civic Duty to pay tribute to Emily by helping others in her name. Just visit the foundation website http://www.emilyshane.org to enter your good deeds.

The Emily Shane Foundation (http://www.emilyshane.org) was created in the aftermath of a terrible tragedy when a suicidal driver struck and killed 13 year old Emily Shane walking on the shoulder of Pacific Coast Highway (there are no sidewalks). She had just left a friend’s house to meet her dad. She never reached him.The SEA Program of the Foundation provides one on one mentoring to at risk, mainstreamed middle school students in public schools. The only cost to the students is that they must perform a good deed for each mentoring session and post it on the Foundation’s website. Emily Rose Shane was a compassionate and generous soul. To honor her kind and selfless nature, we encourage everyone to join us in our “Pass it Forward” campaign. Perform any act of kindness for another person or living creature. It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple gesture or a life changing one. Be inspired to honor Emily’s generous spirit and make a positive impact on the world.
