It’s Random Acts of Kindness Week. Be Kind to Others.

San Francisco Chronicle February 15, 2013

The Omidi brothers and their non-profit organization Civic Duty endorse Random Acts of Kindness Week, an annual celebration of human kindness and charity. Everyone is encouraged to show a little extra kindness this week; it can be as small as sharing a smile with a stranger or can involve charitable donations of time and money.

When we share, it inspires others to go out and act!

This week, February 11-17 is Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week and Civic Duty and co-founders Julian Omidi and his brother Dr. Michael Omidi support the idea whole-heartedly. During this special week, sponsored annually by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, people are asked to be more compassionate and look for opportunities to be friendly and helpful to others.

“Random Acts of Kindness is tremendous opportunity for everyone to put aside the daily commitments and stressors and be considerate of others. It is really rather easy and can be as simple as holding the door open for another,” says Civic Duty co-founder Julian Omidi. “Many people surround us and give into our lives every day: the coffee barista, your pharmacist, the owner of your favorite dry cleaners. Give them something special this week for their consistent service. It will be a blessing to them and you!”

The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation believes people should practice kindness every day, but during RAK Week, it hopes that people will go above and beyond to make others feel special. The foundation offers the following ideas for consideration:

  • Buy something for the person in line behind you.
  • Share a treat with a neighbor or the folks in the office.
  • Donate time or money to a local charity.
  • Reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while.
  • Cook a healthy meal and share it.
  • Tip big and show appreciation to those who serve others
  • Give food blankets, towels or old clothes to a homeless shelter
