The Omidi brothers, through their charity Civic Duty, are happy to support Leader Dogs for the Blind for its tremendous work of providing Americans who are blind with the companionship and assistance of a guide dog. In its 74 years of operation, Leader Dogs for the Blind has trained and matched more than 14,500 guide dogs with people who are blind or who are both deaf and blind.

Civic Duty is proud to announce their support of STAND (originally Students Taking Action Now in Darfur), an organization devoted to ending atrocities and genocide across the world. STAND works to affect permanent change by putting pressure on elected officials to take action for those affected by genocide or other human atrocities .
“STAND gives students the opportunity to have their voices heard in the struggle against the horrors of mass genocide,” says Dr. Michael Omidi, co-founder of Civic Duty. “Civic Duty is compelled to give STAND all of the help and sponsorship we can, since the eradication of atrocities is something very close to our hearts.”
STAND (http://www.standnow.org) began as an outraged response to the horrors of Darfur, Sudan. A group of students at Georgetown University wanted to organize a student constituency for the purpose of ending genocide in Darfur. As STAND’s passion and mission became well-known, other universities responded by launching their own chapters. As the organization broadened, the scope of STAND’s goals expanded, and by 2005, STAND began lobbying for the end of genocide worldwide.
While it began in Washington D.C., STAND is now a national organization, with over 200 chapters around the country. Entirely student led, STAND creates the political will for action against nations that allow atrocities to be committed against citizens. To date, STAND has succeeded in lobbying for effective legislation regarding U.S. policies in Sudan, raised more than $650,000 for the Genocide Intervention Network’s civilian protection program and encouraged 25 states and eight universities to divest funds from companies engaged in irresponsible business practices in Sudan.
