STAND thanks the charity Civic Duty and its co-founders Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi for their support and sponsorship. STAND is a student-led national organization devoted to ending genocide throughout the world.
“STAND envisions a world in which the international community protects civilians from genocidal violence and elected officials are held accountable for their action, or inaction, in the face of genocide,” says Kathleen Fallon, the Senior Manager of STAND. “Every donation we receive goes directly to empowering our students to be the leaders of STAND and the genocide prevention movement at large. STAND remains the only student-led organization focused on genocide prevention and mitigation, determined to reflect the student voice in the long-term fight to make ‘Never Again’ a reality. After President George W. Bush publicly labeled the horrors of Darfur genocide, a group of student organizers in Georgetown University decided to begin a grassroots organization dedicated to eradicating the crimes against the people of Darfur. Calling their society “Students Take Action Now in Darfur,” the students began an advocacy campaign with the purpose of creating greater public awareness about the Darfur atrocities, thereby increasing public officials’ political will to take action. After numerous chapters sprung up in universities across the United States, STAND expanded their efforts, and began lobbying for anti-genocide legislation and action wherever mass atrocities are committed in the world.

STAND (http://www.standnow.org) is entirely student-led and managed. To date, STAND has succeeded in raising more than $650,000 for the civilian protection program within the Genocide Prevention Network, lobbied for numerous pieces of anti-genocide legislation, pressured President Obama into speaking publicly about U.S. policies in Sudan and encouraged 25 states and eight universities to divest funds from companies engaged in irresponsible business practices in Sudan.
